SM-Obsessed

It's been less than 24 hours and I'm already SM-obsessed - obsessed with reading blogs, commenting on blogs, researching prominent bloggers, thinking about my own blog.

I had two papers due today. Don't get me wrong, I got them done, though it was at the expense of only four hours of sleep. I couldn't help it! Ironically, I blame one of the classes for which one of my papers was due (Persuasion and Public Opinion) for my new addiction:

Just last week, Larry Weber, chairman of the Digital Influence Group and the genius behind the now-global PR firm, Weber Shandwick, attended our lecture to discuss his new book, Marketing to the Social Web: How Digital Customer Communities Build Your Business, which discusses the important influence social media is currently having on communication's PR and marketing functions. I was only able to get my hands on a couple of excerpts from my professor, but I will be most definitely purchasing the book in the near future. The bottom line: during his lecture, I was on the edge of my seat.

When I received a BU COM E-mail that same day regarding internship and job opportunities, I noticed a listing for an open house at SHIFT Communications and decided to do a little digging about the company. Realizing its strong presence in the social media sphere, I instantly became a daily reader of Todd Defren's blog, PR-Squared. I was already hooked. (You can imagine my excitement when, only three hours following the launch of my blog, I had already received a comment from Todd - thanks, Todd!).

Tomorrow evening I will attend an open house at SHIFT Communications, with the hope of (literally) getting my foot in the door and sending me on my way to landing a spring internship. Still, I am mostly excited about the prospect of learning more about the company's vision in the realm of social media.

I am bound to walk away enlightened.
